The Salvation Army was founded in London, England, in 1865 by William Booth. It is now an international organization with divisions in 100 countries throughout the world. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Salvation Army Partners With U.S. Department of Homeland Security to Distribute Preparedness Information

The Salvation Army has agreed to partner with the United States Department of Homeland Security in distributing critical preparedness information. The government launched a public service ad campaign recently urging Americans to prepare for potential terrorist attacks.

The recommendation of the National Advisory Board, and the directive of the February 2003 Commissioners’ Conference is as follows:

The Salvation Army, in partnership with Homeland Security, will be the primary distribution channel for the brochures. Through this initiative, The Army will provide the information to needy individuals in hard-to-reach areas.

Salvation Army officers, including Major George Hood, were on hand in Cincinnati last week as Tom Ridge, the Director of Homeland Security, announced the new program. The Ready Campaign will include television, radio, print, outdoor and internet advertisements. Firefighters, police officers and emergency personnel appear in the ads, advising people “to arm yourself with information.”

All the corps and units of The Salvation Army in America will be given the instructional brochure, which will be printed by the Homeland Security office. The Salvation Army will send the brochure to their Divisional Headquarters, then ship them directly to local Army units for further distribution.
