The Salvation Army was founded in London, England, in 1865 by William Booth. It is now an international organization with divisions in 100 countries throughout the world. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Programs and services touch the lives of senior citizens, children, families, and people of all ages facing crises and difficult times:

• Thanks to the kindness and generosity of people in each of our communities and around the state, The Salvation Army is able to activate in a moment's notice to bring disaster and emergency relief wherever it is needed anywhere in the state.

• Staff and volunteers respond daily to requests for food, clothing, prescriptions and much more.

• Counseling is available to help those dealing with personal, financial and family issues.

• Youth in schools may be eligible for scholarships, back-to-school supplies and emergency assistance.

• During the holiday season, The Salvation Army provides thousands of food baskets, clothes & toys to families across the state; and visits thousands of shut-ins in their homes and seniors citizens in nursing homes to cheer them during their loneliest times.
