NEW YORK, Nov. 30 -- As of Nov. 30, The Salvation Army of Greater New York assumed responsibility for providing all meals for recovery workers at Ground Zero.

As part of its "Operation Compassion Under Fire" relief efforts, The Salvation Army has been serving thousands of meals each week near Ground Zero since the terrorist attacks on September 11th. Most recently, the feeding operation has been located at The Salvation Army's Florida Mobile Kitchen, located at Murray and West Sts. (south).

On Nov. 30, the feeding program relocated to the sprawling EPA tent, covering some 35,000 square feet, on the north side of Murray and West Sts. The new location, nicknamed the "Taj Mahal," has a seating capacity of 500.

In addition to providing hot meals, The Salvation Army will continue to distribute clothing, toiletries, over-the-counter medicine and other goods from the EPA tent. Restaurant Revitalization Part of Effort

The feeding services are expected to incorporate the New York City Restaurant Revitalization Program, recently established by The Salvation Army and Whitsons Food Service to help revitalize New York City restaurants in lower Manhattan impacted by the World Trade Center disaster.

The Salvation Army continues to serve in other phases of relief efforts at locations including the Medical Examiner's Office, the Family Assistance Center at Pier 94 and the Family Service Center at 141 Worth St.
